Syracuse fires defensive coordinator, Brian Ward

Brian Ward is out as Syracuse defensive coordinator, effective immediately, a source told CuseNation.com. This comes on the heels of the Orange’s 58-27 blowout loss to Boston College, in which the Eagles racked up nearly 500 rushing yards, the most allowed by Syracuse in a single game in program history. Ward has been the defensive coordinator under Dino Babers during Babers entire tenure at Syracuse. Defensive ends coach Steve Stanard will be the interim defensive coordinator for the rest of the season.

“I want to thank coach Ward for everything he’s done for Syracuse University and the football team,” head coach Dino Babers said in a statement. “However, I felt a change needed to be made at this time to give us the best opportunity for success moving forward. Coach Stanard is an experienced defensive coach. He’s been here for three years now and understands the culture of our program. I’m confident in his ability to lead that side of the ball.”
