Communities deal with flooding, wind damage, and power outages as November arrives

First came flooding, then came the damaging winds. First responders around the Finger Lakes were busy on Thursday and Friday dealing with multiple incidents involving flooded roadways, downed trees, power outages, and more.

The conditions even prompted Sheriff Brian Schenck to issue a Travel Advisory for Cayuga County.

The National Weather Service reported that upwards of 1-inch of rain fell in just 30 minutes, according to radar estimates – during the heaviest rain Thursday night.

Meanwhile, around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday the Auburn Citizen reported that water was observed flowing across Route 38 near Maple Avenue in Locke. They say Congress Street in Moravia was also reported under water. Locations in Fleming and Scipio also reported flooding in Cayuga County.

Once the rainfall stopped, the wind damage reports began coming in. Thousands were without power in Wayne, Cayuga, Seneca, Ontario, Schuyler, and Tompkins counties – as damaging wind gusts around 60 mph were reported and confirmed.

The wild weather even prompted some schools to delay start times. Click here to check out the full-list.
