Former trainer contracted by Midlakes, Bloomfield schools indicted on federal charges

A federal grand jury indicted the former athletic trainer who worked for Thompson Hospital before being fired as allegations of sexual misconduct came to light.

Now more information has been learned about the scope of charges filed against Austin Pratt in federal court.

Federal prosecutors say Pratt was indicted on charges of enticement of a minor, transfer of obscene matter to a minor, as well as production, receipt and possession of child pornography.

He’s accused of exchanging nude photographs with a minor via Instagram, and later raping her.

State Police arrested Pratt in January on rape and criminal sex act charges. Investigators said the victim’s father discovered an inappropriate relationship between the victim and Pratt by reading messages between the two on the minor’s cell phone.

In March, federal prosecutors announced charges against Pratt. 13WHAM-TV reports that text messages from Pratt included, “This is crazy to me for only knowing you for a few weeks and I’m not sure how to navigate these feelings as I’m obviously married and our age difference which plays a huge role in all this. I love talking to you and being around you and all I want is to be with you. I hate the fact that I am 16 years older than you and that we have to hide and be sneaky.”

In addition to contracting with Geneseo Schools, Pratt worked for UR Medicine Thompson Health as an athletic trainer. UR Medicine said he was fired after his arrest. Pratt also worked under contract for the Midlakes and Bloomfield school districts as a trainer.

Pratt faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
