Romulus home a ‘total loss’ after weekend structure fire

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday around 2 a.m. deputies responded to 2081 Yerkes Road in the Town of Romulus for the report of a house fire.

Deputies say that David Esh, 22, Henry Esh, 24, Levina Esh, 20, Lena Esh, 23, and one child were sleeping when a fire from their wood stove grew out of control and quickly spread to the second floor of the house.

Deputies said that no one was upstairs during the time of the fire and everyone was able to get out safely.

The fire was put by members of Romulus, Varick, Fayette, Ovid, Interlaken, Lodi, Canoga, Border City, Waterloo and Junius fire departments.

The apparent cause of the fire was determined to be from the wood stove.

The damage resulted in a total loss of the home and is insured through the Amish Church.
