Auburn landlord accused of displaying a handgun during altercation with would-be tenant

An Auburn landlord was arrested on multiple charges following an investigation by the Auburn Police Department, according to Finger Lakes News Radio.

Captain James Moore says 90-year old Carr Magel was arrested on Friday in connection with an incident with a would-be tenant on October 7th.

According to Captain Moore, who spoke with Finger Lakes News Radio, Magee is accused of displaying a handgun during a disagreement between himself and that would-be tenant.

Police say Magel has also been accused of entering an apartment unannounced. Moore said that the pistol observed during the incident was not registered with Magee’s permit.

He’s been charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and criminal trespassing.

In 2006, Magel was arrested for disconnecting Auburn’s water meters at three properties he owned. At the time, he was charged with three misdemeanor counts of theft of services.

At the time The Citizen reported that police examined meters at least 13 properties during their investigation and found water was still running to 182 VanAnden St. and two other properties, but the water meter heads were disconnected from the base of the meters.

Magel said at the time that he was not the person who disconnected the meters. Police noted at the time though that he was the only person who could have profited because rent included the price of utilities.
