Syracuse unleashed a long-distance attack and took advantage of 15 3-pointers to defeat Division II Daemen, 90-71, in an exhibition game at the Dome. Redshirt junior Elijah Hughes topped the Orange with 24 points.
THE FIRST FIVE
Coach Jim Boeheim opened the contest with the same first five that he employed during the four-game exhibition slate in Italy. Sophomores Buddy Boeheim and Jalen Carey manned the backcourt spots, junior Bourama Sidibe jumped center and the forward spots were handled by redshirt junior Elijah Hughes and freshman Quincy Cuerrier.
The visitors jumped out to an early, 7-5 advantage against the Orange. A 3-pointer from Jeff Redband put the Wildcats up two. The Orange responded with a 27-5 run and never trailed again.
During the dominant Syracuse stretch, Carey had five points, and the Orange received 3-pointers from freshmen Joseph Girard III and Brycen Goodine, and sophomore Robert Braswell.
