Officials say three separate fights over the past two weeks led to parts of the Elmira Correctional Facility being locked down and several make-shift weapons being seized by officers.
The first incident happened on Tuesday, October 2. As WENY News initially reported, officers say they saw four inmates fighting another inmate. The officers reportedly had to use pepper spray and force to bring the situation under control. Two make-shift shanks were reportedly found after two of the inmates were found to have “minor lacerations and puncture wounds”.
The second incident happened in the mess hall on Thursday, October 4 around 8:10 a.m. Three inmates began fighting and reportedly ignored staff orders to stop. Then, officials say after three additional inmates joined in on the fight, two rounds of pepper spray had to be deployed to stop the incident.
