Laura Rideout’s attorneys call for murder conviction to be overturned

Lawyers for Laura Rideout were in court Wednesday, attempting to overturn her murder conviction.

Rideout was convicted of killing her estranged husband, Craig Rideout, in 2016.

She says she did not participate in the murder or its planning.

Rideout and one of her sons, Colin Rideout, were both convicted of murder. Both were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for second-degree murder and 1 1/3 to 4 years for evidence tampering. Laura Rideout was also sentenced to 15 years for burglary.

Her other son, Alex Rideout, was convicted of evidence tampering.

Attorneys for Laura Rideout argue that she should not have shared the trial with her sons. In their appeal, they say her sons’ attorneys acted as “de facto prosecutors, attempting to convince the jury that Laura, not Colin and Alex, murdered Craig, and that she forced them to help her cover up the crime.”
