Dr. William Valenti with Trillium Health has devoted his career to HIV and AIDS research.
He says the state’s newly released numbers on new HIV diagnoses are promising.
“We’re really seeing a downward trend in new infections,” said Valenti.
New York says 2,481 new HIV diagnoses were reported in 2018, which is a 11 percent drop since 2017, and 28 percent overall since the state began a new effort to combat the AIDS epidemic in 2014.
“It’s a big step forward because it shows we can do it,” said Valenti.
