Starting Oct. 1, $245 million will be cut from Medicare reimbursement funds for nursing homes across New York.
Healthcare union officials said it will impact 600 nursing homes and 100,000 patients across the state. News10NBC is working to figure out which nursing homes will be impacted locally.
Representatives with 1199SEIU said the cuts mean less money to pay staff and restock on supplies. Union officials are urging the New York State Department of Health to hold off on the reimbursement changes.
“So it’s not just as a member of 1199, I’m speaking as a family member, a community member, you want the best care possible in New York state, you know?” said Tanya Grant, an administrative organizer for 1199SEIU.
