Canandaigua man recovering after being hit by car on Main Street

The Canandaigua Police Department reports that on Saturday around 11 a.m. police responded to an accident involving a car and pedestrian.

Investigators say the crash happened at the intersection of North Main Street and West Gibson Street.

William Winkler, 75, of Canandaigua was said to be making a right turn from North Main Street onto West Gibson Street when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who suffered non-life threatening injuries was said to be a 47-year-old from Canandaigua, according to police. He was not identified.

Police say that Winkler was cited for failing to yield the right of way, and for having an uninspected vehicle.

Both the Canandaigua Fire Department and Canandaigua Ambulance assisted at the scene.
