Deputies investigate report of shots fired in Geneva; Auburn man taken into custody on weapons charge

Sheriff Kevin Henderson reports the arrest of a 35-year-old Auburn man following a shots fired report Thursday night around 10:22 p.m.

Deputies responded to 118 Carter Road for the report of shots fired, according to Henderson.

He says that during the early stages of the investigation the area around the residence was secured with assistance of New York State Police and the Geneva Police Department.

Further investigation determined that prior to law enforcement arriving at the scene – Ira D. Smith, 35, of Auburn possessed a loaded firearm.

He was subsequently charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Smith was transported to the Ontario County Jail and will answer the charges in Geneva Town Court at a later date.
