Some lawmakers are questioning gun raffles in New York.
The practice is common for some area fire departments. Among them is the Hamlin Fire Department, which will hold its raffle Saturday.
The guns will raise thousands of dollars for the department.
“It’s currently our most lucrative fundraiser,” said Hamlin Fire District spokesperson John Deserto.
A bill introduced in Albany this week which sought to ban these kinds of raffles altogether. Senator Jim Gaughran (D – NY-5) introduced the proposal after the Friends of the NRA chapter in his district hosted a gun raffle.
