Recent changes to the state’s STAR rebate program are causing headaches for the people it’s supposed to help.
Enhanced STAR was implemented to cut the cost of living for those 65 and over, saving them money on school taxes.
However, Wayne Pickering, the Perinton town assessor, says some are being dropped from the program with no notice.
“In my opinion, the state should either give the STAR exemptions totally back to the towns and let the towns do all the administration of it like it was before or take over the star exemption entirely,” he said.
