State Attorney General Letitia James is calling on federal regulators to stop a proposal that would give debt collectors more ways to reach people.
Under the proposed collection rule, debt collectors could contact consumers using social media and email instead of just phone calls and letters.
James says that some consumers already suffer from abuse and harassment by debt collectors.
Twenty-seven Attorneys General have joined James in the call to stop the proposal.
