On Saturday, September 14th around 12:17 p.m. deputies were called to the intersection of State Route 14A and State Route 230 in Barrington for the report of a head-on crash.
Deputies say that Candida R. Nieves, 68, of Elmira stopped at a stop sign on Route 230 – then attempted to turn onto Route 14A.
Nieves entered into the path of a southbound vehicle operated by Franklin C. Johnston, 55, of Penn Yan.
The two vehicles met head-on causing extensive damage to both.
A passenger in the Nieves vehicle, identified as 69-year-old Hubert Nieves was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries, according to The Chronicle-Express.
Other passengers, including a 9-year-old, were transported to Schuyler Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Franklin Johnston, the operator of the southbound vehicle, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The investigation remains active.
