UPDATE: Driver in critical condition after pickup truck leaves Rt. 34, colliding with house in Cayuga County

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says that a 70-year-old driver remains in critical condition after his pickup truck slammed into a house along Route 34 in the Town of Venice.

David R. Nickerson, 70, was said to have been operating a pickup truck when he failed to negotiate a curve.

His truck struck a guardrail and continued along an embankment – striking an occupied house on the west side of the roadway.

No one in the house was injured, according to deputies. Nickerson was airlifted by LifeNet to Upstate Medical and remains in critical condition.

A Cayuga County road was temporarily shut down on Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into a house in the Town of Venice.

First responders say that one person was airlifted from the scene near the intersection of Poplar Ridge Road and State Route 34.

They say a pickup truck crashed into a house at the intersection around 7:01 p.m. More than two hours later, first responders remained on-scene, according to The Citizen.

First responders say that Poplar Ridge, Long Hill and Moravia fire departments were on-scene. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, and Southern Cayuga Ambulance also responded and assisted at the scene.

The road was ultimately re-opened by 10 p.m., according to The Citizen.
