How young people learn about the 9/11 attacks in school

A somber day in our nation’s history as we mark 18 years since the September 11th attacks.

Nearly 3,000 people died that day in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.

Heather Poland says she was at work when the attacks happened in New York City.

It wasn’t until six years later that her daughter Lauren was born..

Heather says she first talked to her daughter about the attacks when she was nine.

Now 12 years old, Lauren says 9/11 is talked about in school, but not much.

“We do only talk about it for one day and maybe we talk about it for two days if we’re just talking about it,” said Lauren Poland.
