There are now at least five people across the country who have died from a lung injury believed to be caused by vaping. There have not been any related deaths in New York.
Doctors at URMC said there have been a dozen cases of vaping-related lung damage in Rochester in the last three months. The latest case was Thursday. Many of the patients admitted to vaping THC, an illegal chemical.
URMC Pediatric Pulmonologist Dr. Matthew McGraw showed 13WHAM a chest x-ray of a patient who he said was vaping THC. One image shows the lungs as cloudy. McGraw said it’s a sign the person was vaping THC, the chemical that gives marijuana its high.
