Guidelines set for state flooding funds for Lake Ontario homeowners

The process is slowly getting underway for homeowners along the Lake Ontario shoreline to apply for state money to help offset the cost of repairing their homes affected by lake flooding.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that the eligibility requirements had been set for the 2019 Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Flood Relief and Recovery Program. Starting in October, eligible homeowners will be able to apply for up to $50,000 to repair damages done to their primary residences.



People applying for the funding need to live in one of the eight counties hit by flooding: Cayuga, Jefferson, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Wayne. They also need to have their primary residences impacted by the flooding between January 1 and September 30, 2019.

If the physical damage was the direct result of flooding that threatens the safety of the home, priority will be given to those homeowners.
