New York’s Red Flag Law goes into effect this weekend

A new gun control measure goes into effect statewide starting Saturday.

The Red Flag Law is meant to remove guns from people the court deems to be a threat to themselves or others. Currently, there’s a debate over a national version of the legislation following the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio earlier this month.

New York’s Red Flag law is one of several new gun control measures Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into effect. Others include a ban on bump stocks, and requiring guns be stored and locked in a home where children live.

Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan is expected to address today how the new law will affect his county.
