Funeral services held for State Police Sergeant Jeff Cicora

Hundreds of New York State Troopers and people from across the country came out Friday morning to pay respects to a New York State Trooper who passed away last weekend.

Funeral services were held Friday morning for retired State Police Sergeant Jeff Cicora. His funeral was at the Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville.

As a State Trooper, Cicora took part in the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center following the terror attacks. But when he developed cancer as a result of his response at Ground Zero, he wasn’t thinking only about himself.

“When he got cancer, he wasn’t thinking about himself. He saw the kids going through cancer. He got bears, little bears that looked like troopers. About 100 of them. Took them to the children. Brought the K-9, his buddies in the K-9 unit. Brought them to the hospital because the children loved teddy bears, they lover the K-9’s, they loved the dogs. He was thinking about while he was fighting cancer, but he cared about the children at the hospital. You can’t say enough about his integrity and his caringness,” said New York State Police Major Philip Rougeux.
