Should symbols of hate like the swastika be taught in the classroom? It could soon be a requirement in New York state.
State Sen. Todd Kaminsky, D-Nassau, has introduced a bill that would require schools to teach students about “the meaning of swastikas and nooses as symbols of hatred and intolerance.”
The proposed legislation calls for both public and private schools to include the lesson in sixth through 12th-grade curriculums.
Kaminsky told the New York Post an uptick in racist graffiti is behind the bill. He pointed out an incident on Long Island last week where several swastikas were found scribbled in a park.
