The Newark Orioles were a minor league baseball team in Wayne County that played in one of the smallest markets in professional baseball. Before the Orioles, Newark had another such team, the Newark Co-Pilots.
Both teams played at Colburn Park, a 1930s-era ballpark about 35 miles from downtown Rochester, as members of the New York-Penn League. The teams’ alumni include a famous future Hall of Famer who started his pro career as a raw rookie with Newark and played his only season of minor league ball there.
Young players would live with host families and entertained fans throughout the summer in a “homey” atmosphere.
