Mets stay smoking hot with 8th straight win

In beating up on various underachieving teams to make themselves relevant again, the Mets proved they could defeat teams that will sit home in October.

This weekend they are proving they can beat just about anyone.

For the second straight night on Saturday, the Mets came from behind to upend the Nationals, this time 4-3 at Citi Field. Luis Guillorme hit a pinch-hit, game-tying home run — the first long ball of his career — off Fernando Rodney to lead off the bottom of the eighth, and J.D. Davis hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly to give the Mets their eighth consecutive victory.

The Mets have now won 15 of their last 16 games to pull within a half-game of the Nationals for second place in the National League East.
