Habitat for Humanity, Marshall Exteriors partner to host block party in Canandaigua

Habitat for Humanity of Ontario County and Marshall Exteriors are hosting a block party to celebrate the construction of a new home on Saltonstall Street, Canandaigua. The home is the 3rd house to be built by Habitat within the Saltonstall/Foster neighborhood. Neighbors and community members are invited to join in the fun on Saturday August 10th between 10am and 1pm. This family friendly event will include free food, free raffles, games and a kid’s basketball shootout contest – with two grand prize winners receiving a basketball hoop delivered to their home.

Representatives from Habitat will also be available to talk about their programs and services which include not only affordable homeownership, but also exterior home repair services, wheelchair accessible ramps, and financial coaching.

The block party will coincide with the final day of Habitat’s Blitz Week. Throughout the week volunteers will be working alongside Habitat’s future homebuyers to raise the walls and trusses for a new home on Saltonstall Street. Then on Saturday, during the block party, the team from Marshall Exteriors will donate their time to install the roof while the community looks on from the street.

In continuation of a partnership that spans many years, GAF and Marshall Exteriors are once again donating their services to provide roofing materials and professional installation for this local Habitat house. The installation and materials donations are part of a national partnership between GAF and Habitat for Humanity, to match roofing materials donations from GAF with installation services donated by GAF Master Elite® and Certified ™ Contractors in communities across the United States.

“Partnerships like this one are key to realizing Habitat’s mission by creating affordable housing and providing families and individuals with the opportunity to own a home of their own” said Nash Bock, Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Ontario County. “To have a local partner like Marshall Exteriors, who continues to give back to the community by providing top of the line roofing services for our homes, is truly amazing.”

“We are so proud of our partnership with Habitat and the opportunity to give back to our neighbors in Ontario County,” said Adam Olshewske,  owner of Marshall Exteriors. “We have a great sense of pride in knowing our work is part of a solution that creates affordable housing with families in our area.”

Since 2011, the team at Marshall Exteriors has donated the labor and installation services for 10 Habitat for Humanity homes locally. As a GAF Master Elite Contractor, their reliable crews install the materials provided by GAF in partnership with Habitat. In addition to the home being built on Saltonstall Street in Canandaigua, Marshall Exteriors will also donate the roof install for a Habitat home in Shortsville later this summer.

Every year, GAF donates roofing materials for hundreds of Habitat homes throughout the nation. “We are thrilled not only to be able to offer this contribution to an organization creating affordable housing, but also to be able to reinforce the efforts of our Master Elite® and Certified™ Contractors as they strive to support the communities in which they live and work,” stated Jim Slauson, vice president of Certified Program and Services at GAF.

Work on the Saltonstall Street home will continue through summer and fall, with completion anticipated by the end of the year. For more information on how you can support the local efforts of Habitat for Humanity by donating or volunteering, visit: www.OntarioHabitat.org
