They are new moms dealing with so much more than caring for a new baby.
These women are fighting addiction and finding a support group, which can be essential in their journey to recovery. Now, a local hospital here in Syracuse is working toward making that a little easier, one day at a time.
On the ninth floor inside Crouse Hospital, nurses are taking care of newborns in the NICU. Some of the babies are recovering from neonatal abstinence syndrome, after being born to mothers who were addicted to opioids.
The hospital offers a “Mommy and Me” program to try and comfort families from the moment the baby is born.
