With its namesake sitting with his wife, two sons and daughter in the front row at SRC Arena Friday night, Boeheim’s Army shook off a scare from the No.8 seed and survived to play again in The Basketball Tournament.
The Army won 68-65 on a single Jordan Crawford free throw.
The entire building then exhaled.
The home team and top seed trailed 37-35 at the half as a decidedly orange-hued crowd looked on. D3 shot the ball better (55.6 percent from 3, compared to 14.3 percent from 3) and at one point owned a 14-point first half lead.
