Emergency sewer work could have hefty impact on downtown Auburn

A block of East Genesee Street in downtown Auburn will be temporarily closed Thursday, city officials said, and it could be partially blocked off into the weekend and beyond.

City employees continue to work at the site where debris blockage caused a sewer overflow into the Owasco River Monday. East Genesee Street from Loop Road to Seminary Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon Thursday, the city announced in a news release. If all goes “exactly to plan,” single-lane traffic will begin in the afternoon with both lanes opening by the end of the day.
