GoFundMe established for Binghamton student-athlete who drowned in Ithaca

GoFundMe campaign has been started to help with funeral expenses for Calistus Anyichie, the Binghamton student and basketball player who drowned in Buttermilk Falls State Park on Sunday night.

The campaign is seeking $30,000 to pay for the funeral. It has raised over $5,000 in under a day. According to the GoFundMe page, “donations will be used to assist with funeral home expenses, repatriation and transportation of Calistus to his hometown to Nigeria, and burial expenses.” Separate services are being held in Short Hills, New Jersey, where Anyichie attended high school after moving to the United States from Nigeria in 2015.

“Calistus wanted to be a diplomat and humanitarian and will always be remembered as a young man with a big smile and an even bigger heart,” the page continues.
