Canandaigua doctor sentenced to 366 days in prison in health care-tax fraud case

A Canandaigua psychiatrist was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for health care and tax fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

Dr. Xingjia Cui of Pittsford, who worked at the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center, was convicted of billing health insurance companies for services he did not provide to his patients.

Cui, a 56-year old who also had a private practice in Canandaigua, also was ordered to pay $597,823 in restitution by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford, according to a release by the U.S. attorney’s office.
