The City of Ithaca paid tribute and said goodbye to a fallen firefighter Wednesday.
Firefighter Daryl Pace, 36, died earlier this month from job-related cancer.
A motorcade carried Pace’s body through the city as friends, family, coworkers and strangers came to pay their respects at a “Line of Duty” Memorial Service.
“You can see the smile on my face because just thinking about her when she entered the room. It was like spice on a bland meal,” said Thomas Basher, Jr. with the Ithaca Fire Department. “She came in and made things that much brighter. It was pretty interesting. She will be missed terribly.”
Pace served with the fire department for 10 years. She was a graduate of Homer High school and SUNY Cortland.
“I can’t believe how many people came out to remember her,” said Jessica Bergerone, Pace’s sister
