Local and state agencies are continuing to investigate a fish die-off on Owasco Lake, but early indications suggest it is likely the result of natural causes, several officials said Monday.
Multiple area residents, in Facebook posts or tips to The Citizen, reported seeing large amounts of dead fish around the lake as early as the last week of June.
In a Facebook post on July 3, the Owasco Lake Watershed Inspection and Protection Division reported that the northern half of Owasco Lake was experiencing a fish die-off, causing fish to wash ashore in areas like Buck Point or Emerson Park.
