Bicyclist in critical condition at Strong after being hit by pickup truck in Ontario County

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that around 9:12 a.m. deputies responded to an accident involving a pickup truck and bicyclist.

Deputies say James Eldredge, 59, of Stanley was traveling west on County Road 23 when he struck Michael Tiffany, 61, of Newark – who was operating a bicycle on the roadway.

Investigation determined that Eldredge drifted to the shoulder of the road with his vehicle and struck the bicyclist who was on the side of the road.

Eldredge was looking to avoid a deer, which was on the other side of the roadway, according to deputies.

Tiffany was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. He’s listed in stable but critical condition.

Seneca Castle Fire Department and Finger Lakes Ambulance assisted.
