Several officers were injured in two separate inmate attacks and two visitors were arrested for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the Elmira Correctional Facility in the last two weeks.
Authorities say on Sunday, June 9, an officer saw vomit on an inmate’s shirt while in the recreation yard. The officer reportedly ordered the inmate to the infirmary to be examined.
When approaching the infirmary, the inmate reportedly refused to enter and started walking to the cell block door. Officials say he took an aggressive stance when confronted by staff and then proceeded to punch two sergeants in the face.
The inmate was reportedly brought to the ground and placed in restraints after a brief struggle.
Officials say the inmate admitted to staff that he had just smoked Synthetic Marijuana, commonly known as K2. Three officers sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical staff, and remained on duty.
