This Wayne County village is a finalist once again in the next round of the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative competition — a program that provides $10 million in funding for building and infrastructure improvements.
Under the program, one community in each of the state’s 10 Regional Economic Development Council regions will receive $10 million in state funding.
The village of Newark said it submitted an application titled “Choose Newark” last week and was notified by a representative of Empire State Development that they were a Finger Lakes Region finalist. The village said it will make a formal presentation to the selection committee on Thursday.
The city of Canandaigua is a finalist, also, said the city manager there, John Goodwin.
The winner is expected to be announced later in the summer.
Last year, Newark was a Finger Lakes Region finalist. The village of Penn Yan, Yates County, was the 2018 recipient.
