An early lead and another impressive pitching performance from Tim McClare were not enough as Gananda saw its season come to a close in a 3-1 loss to Ticonderoga of Section VII in the Class C state semifinals at Maine-Endwell High School, Friday.
Gananda (19-5) took its first and only lead of the game in the top of the first inning after Jayden Castrechini hit an inside-the-park home run on a ball that cleared the Ticonderoga center fielder’s head and went to the wall.
The Blue Panthers’ lead held until the bottom of the third inning when Michael DuShane tied the game for Ticonderoga with a run-scoring, two-out infield single after close call at first base.
