Homeowners along a thin strip of land near Sodus Point fear the next surge of strong waves could take out their homes.
High lake levels have already separated a portion of the land.
On the other side is a thin stretch of land with homes called Crescent Beach. For many, flood waters are already up to people’s homes. And some homeowners say any significant wave action could be devastating.
You can only get to Kevin Harrick’s Crescent Beach home by boat. Like others in the area, he’s scared he could soon lose his home.
“We have water going up underneath our house in calm water,” he said. “So when storms kick up during the summer, there’s a good chance all our property is going to wash away.”
