Waterloo seeks $10 million grant for downtown

The village is officially in the running for a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant from the state.

The Village Board will be told Monday that the application has been completed and submitted to the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Corp.

The application focuses on using the grant money to make a host of improvements and upgrades to the downtown commercial area, including portions of East and West Main Street and North and South Virginia Street. The village will compete with the city of Canandaigua, the town of Seneca Falls and the village of Newark for the sole DRI grant to be awarded the Finger Lakes area.

Previous winners of the $10 million DRI grant are the city of Geneva and villages of Penn Yan and Watkins Glen.
