Penn Yan driver leads police on brief pursuit in Canandaigua

A 48-year-old Penn Yan resident was arrested on multiple charges after an attempted traffic stop in the city of Canandaigua.

Before being taken into custody – he even led police on a brief pursuit.

They say Stephen Chemiske, of Penn Yan was observed speeding on North Main Street. He failed to pull over, according to police, and a pursuit resulted.

Chemiske ultimately crashed his vehicle resulting in heavy damage. He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated due to two previous DWI convictions in the last 10 years.

He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal mischief, and cited for a number of vehicle and safety violations.

Police say Chemiske was taken to the Ontario County Jail pending arraignment.
