Deputies, Wayne Co. finally come to terms on new contract

Teamsters Local 118 and the Wayne County Sheriff Police Officers Union Committee have reached a tentative agreement with Wayne County on a new contract.

The union said in a Facebook post on Sunday that the agreement provides for “aggressive wage increases” from 2016 to 2021, with the right to work a four-days-on-three-days-off schedule, depending on assignments, rank and duties.

Deputies had been without a contract since 2016.

The wage package is worth over $2 million, said the union, with over $600,000 in retroactive awards.

The Teamsters said it “is one of the most lucrative agreements Local 118 has been a part of.”

“Since Jan. 1, 2016, this group has been working without a contract, while the struggle to be recognized as Teamsters and to gain wage improvements was difficult at times, both sides ultimately came together and reached an agreement that is fair to all,” the union said.
