IPD officer fired after pleading guilty to perjury in drug case

The City of Ithaca has fired an Ithaca Police Department officer after he pleaded guilty to perjury charges stemming from a January 2018 raid that yielded 4.5 ounces of crack cocaine, $12,000 in cash and firearms — all charges that were later dismissed.

In January, the Ithaca SWAT Team served two search warrants — one at a home on the 200 block of Linn Street, and the other at a home on the 200 block of East Falls Street.

Questions surrounding the legality of the second raid persisted after discrepancies in Investigator Kyle Paolangeli’s testimony in obtaining the second search warrant surfaced just before the trial was set to begin.
