With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of the swimming season, an Auburn mother whose toddler son drowned in a backyard pool last July wants to get the word out about swimming safety.
Amy Finizio’s son, Jaxon, drowned just shy of his second birthday in a tragic accident after a side door was left open and he wandered outside, falling into their backyard pool even though there was a latched safety gate.
“There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t wish we could go back and change it,” Finizio says.
Jaxon fought hard but died days after the incident.
Jaxon’s cousin, Eric Sapps, dedicated his senior project to the topic of swimming safety.
