A Newark couple has been charged with child endangerment.
According to our news partners at The Times of Wayne County, police reported that three children living in a home on Pierson Avenue were found to be sleeping in the residence’s basement.
That basement had a broken window, and police reportedly say the temperature averaged around 47 degrees.
Police reported there was no bathroom, and the children – ages 11, eight and seven – had to urinate in the basement. There were also said to be dirty clothes strewn about.
Kayla Belcher, 27, and Corie Snyder, 27, have been charged in the case. Child Protective Services reportedly told Belcher and Snyder to move the children from the basement. When they returned the next day, the children were reportedly still be in the basement.
Snyder was also charged with harassment. Police say he hit one of the children in the face, leaving a mark.
