Motorists going by the Ontario County Landfill in a few weeks may see an open-flame gas flare burning near the landfill’s gas-to-energy plant.
Casella Waste Systems officials said that Aria Energy, the company that owns and operates the gas plant, has obtained a permit for a new trim flare that will be going online within the next few weeks.
Unlike Casella’s landfill gas flares, which are enclosed with no visible flame, Aria’s flare is open and visible.
Casella officials said this new flare will help control the landfill gas and contain odors.
