Penn Yan driver speeds away from deputies during traffic stop, crashes into utility pole in Benton

A Penn Yan man is facing multiple charges after fleeing a traffic stop in the Town of Potter over the weekend.

On Saturday, deputies say Christopher Rossman, 28, didn’t stop for officers along State Route 364 when they initiated a traffic stop.

Instead, Rossman sped away from the scene, according to deputies.

They say he eventually lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Havens Corners and Lovejoy Road in the Town of Benton.

A passenger in Rossman’s vehicle was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital with an ankle injury, according to deputies.

Rossman was cited with multiple traffic infractions, but was charged with fleeing a police officer and criminal mischief.

He was held at the Yates County Jail.
