An appeals court has upheld the conviction and possible life sentence of a Lyons man who raped a 15-year-old girl.
In a decision filed Friday, the Fourth Judicial Department of state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division unanimously affirmed the conviction of Clifton “Peter” Hunt. He was found guilty in a 2016 jury trial of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
Hunt was sentenced by now retired county Judge Dennis Kehoe to 15 years to life in prison as a persistent felony offender.
Hunt was one of several people arrested in the case of another Lyons man, Jarvis “Kitty” Streeter. He was convicted of course of sexual conduct against a child, compelling prostitution, sex trafficking, and rape for abusing the girl starting when she was 11, getting her hooked on crack cocaine and arranging for others to have sex with the girl in exchange for drugs.
Also arrested were Robbin Knight-Collins, Shane Bohrer, and Eddie Murphy Jr. They all pleaded guilty to rape charges and were sentenced to a year in jail.
