Feds say Canandaigua man bought illegal gun modifications because they ‘looked cool’

A Canandaigua man is facing charges after allegedly violating weapons laws by purchasing modifications for Glock handguns that allowed for machine gun-like capabilities.

In April, Customs and Border Patrol agents intercepted a package in New York City. In the package, court papers state, was a selector switch. The device converts Glock pistols into fully-automatic firearms and are illegal.

Court papers say the package was addressed to Jonathan Roberts of Canandaigua, and had been shipped from China. Further investigation reportedly revealed two other packages had been shipped to Roberts’ address from overseas.

In late April, the package was brought to Roberts’ home in a controlled delivery, after which a search warrant was executed.
