Boaters, bikers and hikers on and along the Erie Canal won’t have far to go for coffee, a bite to eat or some ice cream in Newark anymore.
All they’ll need to do is stop at the village’s canal park and walk over to The Arc Wayne’s Erie Shore Landing, which celebrated its official opening Thursday morning with state and local officials in attendance.
The site features a cafe and bakery, ice cream shop, expanded print shop and job-training facilities, as well as a private gift store called Makon Cove that is run by twin sisters Melissa Wallis and Michelle Cline. They said they entered into a lease with The Arc Wayne just two days earlier.
The Arc Wayne Executive Director David Calhoun said the new cafe and bakery fills a need in Newark and Wayne County. Plenty of thought went into its design, he said.
