Deputies have identified the truck driver who died in what’s being described as a freak accident at The Home Depot store located in Victor. Brian Perry, 65, of Kirkwood was the operator, according to the Sheriff’s Office, who provided an update Thursday.
He had finished making his delivery Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m. and was inspecting his tractor-trailer when he was killed.
The Sheriff’s Office indicates that it appeared as though Perry was underneath the trailer, and trying to make adjustments to it – when the vehicle shifted – pinning him between the bed and tire.
Sheriff Kevin Henderson says the death has been ruled an accident.
Fatal accident at Home Depot store in Victor remains under investigation
Ontario County Sheriff Kevin Henderson says deputies were called to The Home Depot store located in Victor around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
An unidentified truck driver was dropping off a shipment to the store when he was killed in a work-related accident, according to deputies.
Sheriff Henderson says the man was an ‘independent truck driver’. It means he was not employed by the store directly.
Investigators are still working through details, trying to understand what led to the tragic accident.
At this point, they believe the driver was checking a tire when he was somehow struck by the vehicle. The victim was then discovered a period of time later by an employee of the store.
“This was a gentleman out making a living, and, unfortunately, he was pretty much in the wrong place when the trailer moved,” Henderson said.
